Why bet on sound (now)

In the seconds in which the user decides whether to stay or leave, the voice comes before the logic. Audio reduces cognitive friction (you listen while doing something else), activates a parasocial relationship (a real voice humanizes the brand) and creates “sticky” memory with sound micro-cues that make the brand easier to remember. The result is more clarity, more trust and more useful actions (ATC, purchase, enrollment).

The framework in 5 steps (from briefing to go-live)

1) Align objective and 'moment of use'

Define if the audio should unfold, reassure or activate. Choose the point of the PDP where it is needed: above the fold (orientation), close to the specifications (“human” translation), close to the CTA (drive to action). Think of it like an assist: 15—40 seconds, a clear promise, zero superfluous.

2) Build the Brand Voice Map

Three practical axes:

  • Tone: warm/technical, energized/calm, young/mature.
  • Prosody: rhythm, pauses, emphasis; silence is part of the design.
  • Guide lexicon: words to use/avoid, analogies consistent with the brand.
Create 2—3 “pilot voices” (AI or human) and record 20s sample clips for internal comparison.

3) Write scripts that you listen to (not that you read)

  • Hook 3s: “In 20 seconds you'll know if it's yours...”
  • Concrete value: benefits > feature (“keeps the cold for 24 hours, doesn't sweat on the table”).
  • Reversal proof & risk: warranty, return, real synthetic review.
  • Action-oriented closure: a single CTA uttered once, clear.
Pro tip: a sentence = an idea; active verbs; spoken numbers; key names equal to the UI.

4) Draw the soundscape

No invasive jingles. Usa Micro-cue of 1—2 seconds (soft fade-in at startup, confirmation “tick” on events, subtle room tone for warmth). Adaptive volume and total compliance with browser policies (tap-to-play on mobile).

5) Measure, learn, scale

Before the roll-out, A/B on 3 levers:

  • Voice: feminine/masculine/neutral, rhythm.
  • Player position: above the fold vs. near the CTA.
  • Duration: 15s vs. 30s.
KPIs to observe: Listen rate, Dwell Time in PDP, ATC, T2P (ATC→Purchase), interactions with the CTA. Keep the winning variant for 14 days, then iterate over only one element at a time.

Practical examples (ready to adapt)

Refurbished electronics — 'Fast Reassurance' (∼22s)

“This iPhone is tested on 35 points. Minimum 85% battery, 12 months warranty. In two sentences you understand grade A: excellent aesthetics, it works like new. If it's not your thing, made it easy. Tap 'Add to Cart' and try risk-free.”

Home & Living — “Use Value” (∼18s)

“The tempered glass of these glasses resists temperature changes and is not afraid of the dishwasher. They have a comfortable grip and do not slip. Set of 6: ready for everyday use and for guests. Do you want to see them up close? Scroll through the gallery.”

Beauty — 'Education + Realistic Promise' (∼26s)

“Serum with 10% niacinamide: reduces pores and shine in 14 days. Use 3 drops after cleansing, morning and evening. Fragrance-free formula, tested on sensitive skin. If it's your first time, start every other day.”

Quality checklist before go-live

  • Clear hook within 3 seconds.
  • Only one idea per sentence, no unexplained jargon.
  • Duration < 40 seconds; short version < 20.
  • Voice consistent with the Brand Voice Map.
  • Accessible transcription and keyboard/air controls.
  • Linked analytics events (play, 50%, 100%, CTA clicks).

Mistakes to avoid (it happens often)

  • Forced autoplay on mobile: perceived as intrusive.
  • Long jingles: they steal space from the message.
  • “Brochure” script: empty adjectives, zero proof.
  • Measure only listenings: the audio must move ATC and purchases.
